Crude Oil To Be Tried On Two of Our City Streets.
Crude oil for sprinkling purposes is to be tried on two of our residence streets. A block on South Cqllen street and a block on River street will be sprinkled wltji the oil, the expense to be paid by the property owners. If this experiment is successful it is probable that crude oil will be used on the business streets next summer instead of water. It is claimed that oil is much superior to water for sprinkling purposes, as the use of water is hard on the streets and often leaves them in a muddy condition. One application of oil, it is claimed, is all that is needed in a season, but this is perhaps too much to expect for the first application. The cost of the oil is $3 per barrel and, a barrel will sprinkle about 60 feet of street. The experiment here will be watched with interest. v §■ 20 pounds best fine granulated sugar for SI.OO te every purchaser of SI.OO worth of coffee or tea at Q. C. Starr ft Co.’s.
