A Right Down Mean Trick On Farmer
That was a mean trick that was worked on a well knowm farmer of Jasper county at Roselawn Friday. JSe went to Shelby on the morning train with an empty suit case. After spending the day there he boarded the milk train for Rensselaer in the evening and this time the suit case was much heavier as it contained twelve bottles of beer and one of whiskey for use in case of sickness. The farmer entered the ladies’ coach and placed the suit case on one of the seats and went forward to the smoker for a chat with some of the acquaintances he had made at Shelby. There was a crowd of Roselawn fellows on the train who had also spent the day at Shelby and when they got off at Roselawn the suit case went with them. Just as the, train was leaving Roselawn the owner of the case thought he had better look after his property but found it gone. The air in the coach was blue for a few minutes and the farmer threatened to sue the railroad company for the loss, and he had not calmed down when the train reached Rensselaer. The passengers thoroughly enjoyed the scene and are not yet through laughing.
