Wrens Score Another Victory At Remington 5 to 2.
A makeshift team went to Remington Tuesday under the name of the champion Wrens to give the team there a return game and a chance to get even for the goose-egg handed them here a short time ago. In the absence of Kevin and Morgan practically the whole team was new, except the battery, but they played ball just the same and the title of the Wrens is just as good as it was before the game. The score was 5 to 2. Remington was determined to win and imported a wild Irishman from Kentland called Mulligan to pitch, and Gibson, who some of the fans will remember played here with Sheldon, was cavorting around second base. Mulligan struck out twelve men, but the subs contributed largely to his strike out column. He allowed five hits, but three were for extra bases. Neither team counted until the fourth inning when the Wrens, coming to bat first, scored twice. Mulligan dished up a pass to McLain, who stole second. Hanks followed and clouted the ball to right over G. Merritt for three bases. Parks fanned and Parcells filed out to short, but Wilcox had a single in his bat and used it right there to score Hanks. Kepner was out, Gibson to McCullough. The Knights came in and got one then. C. Merritt was out, Parcells to Malone. Shearer hit safely to right and took second when Wilcox made a poor throw in. Hartman lamned a bingle to center and scored Shearer and took second himself when Kirk heaved the ball back where the grand stand ought to be trying to catch Shearer. G Merritt walked and Watson hit a foul which Kepner nibbed after a hard run. McCullough hit a grounder to Parcells who caught Hartman at the plate. No more scoring happened then until the sixth when the Wrens again got two. McLain filed out to center and Hanks grounded to first but Parks was safe on first sacker’s error and stole second. Parcells then uncorked a beautiful line drive between center and left which rolled to the fence and he circled the bases. Wilcox fanned. Remington then got one in the same inning after two were out. Hartman hit one to center which rolled to the fence, but only took three bases on it. He scored a moment later on a wild pitch. With one out Hanks walked in the eighth, went to second on first’s error, stole third and scored on Parcell’s single to left. It was a good game and lots of fun. The one lamentable and at the same time laughable phase was that the Remington sports had loaded for us and began to feel sorry when they learned that we didn’t have our best team in the field. They said that they wanted to beat us at our best. They might claim that was the reason they didn’t trim us. The score: Remington AB R H PO A E Gilson, 2b 4 0 0 2 4 0 Harris, c 4 0 0 12 0 1 C.
