County Commissioners Met In August Session This Week.
The county commissioners met in regular August session Monday and adjourned Tuesday evening. The Winamac Bridge company was awarded the contract for a bridge In Keener township for $497. A bridge was ordered advertised for letting at next term in Kankakee township. Josiah Hopper, superintendent of the John J. Lawler stone road in Union township, and also on the county line between Jasper and Newton counties, filed his report, together with waivers of interested parties asking for bonds in both improvements. The auditor directed to prepare assessment sheet for bond sale. The notice by publication and posting in the railroad petition in Carpenter townsh|p was found sufficient. The inspectors heretofore appointed are to act at this election. The viewers report filed in the Otis highway in Union and Keener townships, showing the road to be of public utility. The report was approved and the road ordered opened to the width of 50 feet. The superintendent filed his final report in the Babcock ditch. Same approved and superintendent discharged. The superintendent filed his final report in the Chas. V. May ditch. Same was approved and superintendent discharged. No objection having been filed in the Frank E. Rupert ditch, the report of the drainage commissioners is approved and the ditch ordered established. W. Frank Osborne was appointed superintendent and is directed to file bond in the sum of SIOO. Expense allowed and attorney fee of S2O to Foltz & Spitler approved. The drainage commissioners filed their report in the Geo. W. Davisson ditch. Same continued for objections. The John Smallfelt ditch was referred to the drainage commissioners, and to J. P. Ryan, third commissioner, who are ordered to meet August 16, 1909, and report on or before September 6, 1909. The petitioners made proof of service in the Wm. E. Culp ditch, by mailing, posting and publication and also waiver of notice of W. I. Watts, a non-resident. The notice was found sufficient and the cause continued for objections. The trustee of Marion township presented his quarterly report of poor relief, showing money on hand, $1,264.80; expenditures, <237.17, leaving a balance on hand of $1,027.63. The auditor was directed to advertise for bids for the letting of contract for supplies for the county farm. Same to be let September 6th. The board awarded the contract for the examining of county records to Wm. E. Heil for the sum of $1,900, conditioned that he obtain a written statement from the governor that he will be satisfied with the investigation and not order another by the state examining board. Other blds were: Higgs and Workman $2,000, and John W. Coons'’ll,7oo.
