A Successful Celebration at the Town of Parr.
The celebration at Parr July 3rd was a grand success. A large crowd celebrated the anniversary of the national birth. Good order and splendid attention prevailed during the entire day and night. The program was upended at 10 a. m. by prayer by Rev, Bundy, followed by patriotic songs and speeches.
Stephen T. Comer made the opening speech. It was very interesting, as it was along the line of American progression. He was followed by Rev. Clarke, of Rensselaer, who gave us a splendid oration on the subject of liberty and union. The Healy orchestra was present and gave us splendid music as they always do. It was greatly appreciaed by the multitudes that heard them. The Parr band was present and entertained the crowd with splendid selections, which they played with the usual harmony that always entertains. They received many applauses and encouraging congratulations. The afternoon was spent in racing, games, music and other entertainments. The people from Rensselaer were present in large numbers and a good representation from Remington, Goodland, Morocco, Mt. Ayr, and a very large attendance from the country, also a number from Chicago and a few from Lafayette. The stands all made money. The committee will be able to pay all expenses, taking into consideration the liberal donations made by the business men of Parr.
