JAMES E. BRENNER PASSES EXAMINATION FOR CADESHIP.
Will Attend Academy at Annapellg For Four Years; Then Serve • Four Years In Navy. } f ft When James E. Brenner went to Annapolis last February to enter a preparatory school before taking the examination for a naval cadetship at Annapolis, Md., the Republican pre* dieted that he would make good. Tha prediction was correct. Tuesday he passed the mental exam* inaton and his grade was one of the twelve highest. Yesterday he passed the physicial examination, being one of 87 out of 400 that passed. He wan the only one of 50 of his classmates who passed the severe physical ex* amination. J. G. Moyer, of Delphi, passed the mental examination, bat we have not learned the result of the physical examination. Joe. Brows, the other applicant from this district, failed to pass. Brenner’s success will mean much’ to him. His enlistment will last St least eight years. The first four, years he will spend ip the 17. 8. Naval Academy at Annapolis prepar* ing himself for the navy. Each summer of the four years a cruise in some warship will-be taken. During j this period he will receive a salary of S7OO per year and board. j The last four years will be served j on a warship. He will have the title I of a lieutenant with a salary of sl,- I 500 per year. His chance of promo- I tion will depend on his record. At the I end of the eight years he can re-en- I list if he cares to. He will have a I vacation once a year, which he can I spend at home or elsewhere, as hel sees fit.
