The Rensselaer checker club will go to Hammond Saturday afternoon to take part in the checker tournament to be held there that evening. The Rensselaer team will consist of Thomas, McFarland, Stevens, Jordan, Bloom, Hill, Halleck and Judge Hanley or Moses Leopold. Of the above Bloom held the state championship for five years. The Indiana superintendents association will hold its flfty-seventn annual meeting in Indianapolis on June 29th and, 30th. Those on the program are: A. J. Reifel, of Franklin county; Richard Park, of Sullivan county; Elf P. Wilson, of Union county; Charles W. Jordan, of Wayne county; Edger Mendenhall, of Decatur county; Ira Potts, of Huntington county; William S. Corn, of Brown county; John F. Haines, of Hamilton county; Lee L. Driver, of Randolph county; and State N Superintendent Robert J. Aley.

Mrs. Mary Drake is visiting in Englewood. Miss Zelma Rayher has returned from a visit in Hammond. Orphie Gant went to Champaign county, 111., today, for a visit his aunt. J. J. Montgomery was called to Lafayette yesterday to do a difficult job of brazing. Richard Bowie, of Wheatfleld, accompanied his father, Editor Bowie, here today. Ross Dean went to Bloomington today to take a summer course in the State University.

Mrs. Warner Hopkins and Mrs. Wm. Lees returned to Momence, 111., this morning, after a visit here and at Delphi. B. D. Comer, Mr. and Mrs. John I. Gwln and Hallie Alter are attending the state Sunday school convention at Lafayette. Miss Maude Ziegler, of north of town, is in the Mary Thompson hospital In Chicago, having underwent an operation yesterday. R. E. Moore, who has been visiting relatives here, left yesterday for a short visit in Chicago, before returning to his home In New York City.

James Robinson has sold the depot restaurant to John. Remley. Mr. Robinson will probably reside In Rensselaer for the present and work in Simpson’s grocery. Mrs. J. B. Martindale returned from Terre Haute yesterday, where she had been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Donaldson, who returned with her for a visit. The baseball management have secured the Y. M. I.’s, of Lafayette, to play the Wrens here Sunday. v The Lafayette team Is said to be a good one and should bring out'a large crowd.
