B. F. Fendig is in receipt of a letter from Walter White, formerly of this city but now of Lowell, saying that during the races at that place he would have a refreshment stand located in a good place along the race course.
F. W. Tucker, state food inspector, after inspecting all Mishawaka dairies, reported that not ope is complying with the Indiana pure food law and that in instances conditions are phsitivejy filthy. The report was unexpected and those interested are wondering whether arrests will follow. ,
One week from next Friday and Tom McCoy will leave the Michigan City penitentiary a free man. The question that arises at this time is. has he paid the penalty for his crime? Different people will answer the question differently, but we all know that Tom’s sojourn at the city on the lake has not been one continued round of pleasure.
Henry Murray, a .relative of the Murray’s in this county, died at his home four miles east of Monon Suna year. He laves a wife and sever years. He leaves a wife and seven grown children. The funeral was held at Monon today. Those attending the funeral from here were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Murray, Mr. and Mrs. Will Murray, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Donnelly, Mr. and Mrs. Ad Parkinson and Mr. and Mrs. Jud Moore.
Percy Longfellow, the singer at the Princess theatre, for ten years held the amateur championship of Illinois as a foot racer. His record was 10*4 seconds for 100 yards. He still has confidence in himself and will participate in the 10 mile Marathon race to be-given at Indianapolis June 27th. He has made this distance in 57 minutes and thinks he will be ablt to do that well or better during the Indianapolis races.
James Chapman, A. H. Hopkins, B. F. Fendig, of this city, and L. H. Hopkins, of Chicago, together with their wives were entertained one evening recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Hopkins in honor of an event that occurred some seventeen years ago. At that time the four gentlemen mentioned made a tour of the west, and climbed to the top ol the famous Pike’s Peak. Although many years have elapsed since that time the memory of the occasion was fresh in the minds of the participants and the event was reviewed with much pleasure by all.
We acknowledge receipt of invitation to the fourteenth annual commencement of St. Joseph’s college, which will be held June 15th and 16th. “Richelieu” will be presented by the C. L. S. at 8 p. m., Tuesday the 15th. On Wednesday, the 16th, the baccalaureate address will he delivered by The Very Rev. Francis C. Kelley, D. D., L. L. D., president of the Catholic church extension society, of Chicago. Following the address will come the awarding of medals, conferring of degrees, presentation of the alumni flag staff, and meeting of the alumni association.
