Logansport Woman Fined for Violation of Postoffice Laws.

Mary H. Rhea, of Logansport, was fined SIOO and costs last week for violating the U. S. postal laws. She had been mailing packages for some time as third class matter and tho postmaster at Logansport becoming suspicious that the package contained writing which would make it come under the provisions of the firstclass rate, examined the package and had his suspicions confirmed. It was also found that the package contained medicine, addressed to a Monticello woman and that it was to be used for illegal purposes. The post- . office authorities ordered some of the medicine sent to Monticello as a decoy, and found, that the directions for using the medicine plainly showed its illicit intentions. Reputable physicians, however, after examining the medicine, testified that it would not produce the results she claimed for it, but that did not mitigate the offense. Persons should never place writing in packages which they send as third-class -matter. Thej’ save themselves but little and they take a long chance.
