John Poole Only Joking, Says the Fowler Review.
Evidently the in Jasper county do not know how to take Benton county jokers. That is the case at least if the Benton County Review knows anything about it. It copies the article from the Republican about Poole and re Ves it with the following comment: “According to the following article John Poole has been out of bounds a little over in Jasper, where they seem to take his jokes seriously. We d<* not believe he was anything more thaa playing practical jokes on the natives over there, and anyway, John knows as well as everyone in Benton county* that all his Jasper county friends could do, would be to have him re-< turned to the Central Hospital at In* dianapolis for treatment.”
The natives of Jasper county, WS. will admit, are not quite familiar wltK the sort of jokes that Poole plays, and Steve Comer, Everett Halstead, D. 3. Makeever and others, who allege that Poole fell Into the habit of taking their cattle and pigs and road scrappers, etc., have a hard time reconciling themselves to this premier jokesmith from Benton. Another good joke of Poole’s was told to the Republican today. According to Steve Comer, Poole was coming past the Van Lesh farm one day and stopped there for a time. Finding no one a£ home he entered the house and de* voured three or four pies, leaving m note which stated that he was very, hungry and had believed them charitable enough to forgive him for helping himself. Ephrian Haynes, whose wife has been sick since Poole forcibly embraced and caressed her, can’t catch onto the Benton county jokes either. The people of Jasper county are, in fact, so very much out of tune with this style of jokes that Poole is quite
certain to return to his Swanington bailiwick .with some evidences of Jasper county disapproval if he get* rosy in this neck of the woods again.
