Spuds Lost to Monon In Fatal Ninth Inning.
Hugh Kirk’s Spuds sojourned to Monon Friday and dropped the first game of their victorious career to the- team of that village by the score of 8 to 7. The closeness of the score Is far from being a true comparison of the relative strength of the two teams, as the Spuds completely outclassed their opponents at all stages of the game. Parks, the mound artist of the Spuds, pitched velvet-lined ball for eight innings, receiving errorless support from his team-mates. The ninth inning opened with the score 7 to 3, with the Spuds on the long end. Then that fatal 9th inning ascension, for which Rensselaer base ball teams are noted, took place. A hit, an error and two passed men forced the first run across the plate. The rest of the team then got aboard the air ship and hits, errors and Monon justice all mixed together in one grand "succotash” reaped the final score of 8 to 7, and created a pandemonium of delight in Monon not equaled for many moons. The Spuds are undismayed and are looking for other games.
