Schmadle, of was the guest Saturday and Sunday of Dr. and Mrs. Horton. For some time several years ago Drs. Schmadle and Horton were engaged In partnership at Lafayette. - , Jimmie Robinson, the depot restaurant man, has been making some repairs at his restaurant, having given the interior a fresh coat of paint and paper. The improvement is very becoming. Ivan Carson has resigned his position in the clothing department of the Murray store and gone to Monticello to work in the Goodman store. His place has been filled by C. IL Severns, who comes from Francesville. *' j j John Bowie, of Wheatfield, editor of the Kankakee Valley Review, passed through Rensselaer this morning en route to Indianapolis to represent the Roselawn Masonic lodge at the meeting of the Grand Lodge at the state. All the old soldiers and the ladles who attended the G. A. R. encampment at Crawfordsville last week pronounced it one of the very best eve® held in the state. Crawfordsville is a beautiful city and its people hospitable to a marked degree.
The Purdue cadets are to visit Fort Benjamin Harrison, near Indianapolis, tomorrow. About 700 will go on a special train, and after indulging in some of the drills in which they, have received instruction at Purdue, will watch the regular soldiers at the army post drill. Fair Oaks and Parr had a game of baseball at the former place Sunday and Fair Oaks won by the score of 17 to 10. It was a jolly game with a lot of friendly rooting. Parr had previously won a game from Fair Oaks and the rubber game will be played shortly. Do John Gintricb, the sub-contractor at the college, who suffered a fractured leg four weeks ago last Friday, has not let that interfere with his work, and he has been bossing the job since the day after his accident, and has not spent a day in bed. He spent Sunday with his family at Logansport and returned here this morning. Although his leg is still in the plaster paris cast he gets around with the assistance of crutches and is one of the busiest men at the new, church building.
Rue Parcells left this afternoon for Mexico, Mo., where his brother Fred is now located as manager of the Mexico Poultry Co. Fred has quit the barber business, is remarried, and managing a big business for hia father-in-law. Rue is called there to do some expert work as a bookkeeper, in opening up a new set of books, and untangling some mixed parts of the old books. If he finds a good permanent job while gone he will probably stay, although, owing to the condition of his health, he would sooner be in Rensselaer the coming summer. Attorney G. A. Williams was in Montlcello this morning, having had business there conected with the suit of Mrs. Marla Vondersmlth, of Remington, against the Remington Building 'it Loan Association. The case is the one in which Robert Parker Issued to Mrs. Vondersmlth a building and loan certificate when she put money In the bank, and thus defrauded her of all that she placed in his keeping. As he was the legal officer of the building and loan association she hopes to have that association held responsible for his act. T? is case will come up for trial at Montlcello at the next term of court
