Somebody Once Said That a man who never made a mistake never made anything. When we say that this studio has the reputation as the most reliable studio in the county, we don’t mean that we’re infaU Ible. _ TUESDAY. v| Mrs. C. W. Hanley is spending today in Chicago, ~ v D. M. Worland made a business trip to Lafayette today. W. J. Wright is in Indianapolis today attending the undertakers’ convention. The convention will doubtless be a dead one. This is a fine day and the farmers are making the planters sing. With a few more days good weather most of the corn will be planted. Mrs. Amanda Collins and granddaughter, Pearl Collins, of Idaville, came today to visit Silas Toombs, of near Newland. Will Porter, Chas. Severns and John Hudgenfe, of Francesville, were Rensselaer visitors today, having come via auto. , D. L. Halstead and James Donneliv left this morning for a trip to Michigan, where the former has land. Jim went to see the country. E. L. Hollingsworth, Delos Thompson and J. J. Hunt are spending today at Hammond in attendance at the district meeting of the bankers association. Mr. Hollingsworth is the district-chairman. C. B. Steward went to Indianapolis today to look after some insurance business and to attend the I. O. O. F. grand lodge. Mrs. Steward went Sunday to attend the Rebekahs, being a member of the auditing committee.
Hugh Kirk’s Spuds ran away from the Pleasant Ridge Kidder baseball team at Riverside Park Sunday to the tune of 23 to 1. The Spuds will play at Monon Friday. They are playing quite good ball and having a lot of fun. Remington had a great hail storm Saturday afternoon that entirely missed Rensselaer. The hail stones were large and continued falling for some time, doing considerable damage to fruit and breaking out a number of window lights. Ed Randle has purchased the house on north Front street that was formerly owned by Rush & Warren, and later by the Rensselaer Lumber Co. It is a modern 5-room cottage and sold for $l,lOO. Mr. Randle and family will occupy it. Comrade Fox, who has been ill for the past three weeks, is now about well again and will begin carrying the Pleasant Grove star route next Monday. Mr. Grieser will continue to carry the city mall between the depot and the post office. Miss Nancy, Carr and Miss Jessie Knox expect to start Thursday of this week to Spokane, Wash., to see Mrs. Arthur Arnott, nee Miss Cena Carr, daughter of Carey Cajr, west of town. They will he gone for several weeks. There is much whooping cough in the city and country. The baby of John Hordeman and wife in town, and of George Iliff and wife in the country have been having a hard time of it but are thought to be out of danger now.
Geo. Ketchum and wife and Frank ponnelly and wife spent last Saturday in Goodland the guests of Mr. and Mrs. G. O. Bales. Mrs. Bales is recovering from her accident of some weeks ago, and is now able to get about some with the assistance of a crutch. Her left foot was partially amputated and it is* intended to get an artificial member as soon as the foot is healed sufficiently to have it adjusted. Samuel Lowry, who lives on the William Barker (arm, north of town, was operated on Monday for strangulated hernia. He has had the for some years but the strangulation occurred Sunday. The most prompt relief Is necessary to prevent death and a surgeon from Chicago was called by local physicians and the case relieved Monday about noon. He is getting along very nicely now, and is being nursed by Miss Mattie Hemphill. “Delos Thompson, Harry Parker, Billy Smith and Chick Chamberlin took an auto trip Sunday to the Low-ell-Crown Point auto race course. There were fifty or more autos there, many of them from Chicago and the contractors were busy at work on the track, which is all being covered with tar and then with crushed rock, which is pressed into the tar with a steam roller, making an ideal bed. The big races will be held there on Jifne 18th and 19th and it is probable that many Rensselaer people #lll he there to
gee them. Barney Oldfield, recognized prince of motor racers, has just pro- J nounced the Indianapolis motor I speedway the best on earth and says that 4 speed of two miles a minute should be made on the course. The Lowell race course is 23.6 miles in length. Grandstand seats Will cost $4 for the two days and should be i ordered soon, if desired. The Wolcott ball team had its hands full Monday in defeating the base ball girls, and the final score was 5 to 4. The team consists of five girls and four men. One girl pitched the first four innings. They travel in their own private car and draw large crowds, about 500 seeing the game at Wolcott. It was an interesting game and every one had quite a ripping time. The team was scheduled to play in Michigan today, and had all of its dates full, so the plan Lou Harmon had to get them over here for a game could not be consummated.
For the Trade of 1909.
I expect to exhibit the best line of buggies that ever came to the city of Rensselaer. I have bought three car loads at thiß writing and if the trade is as good as last season (and I think it will be better) I will need another car or two. I have the agency for nothing but FIRST CLASS FIRM’S GOODS. The latest styles of auto seats and of other designs of high class, all work made up by expert workmen and no job is misrepresented; nothing but a guaranteed work Is bought or sold. The best goods that can be bought is none too good. The good class of work is the winner in the long run. With this fine line of buggies and carriages I have the farm wagon that has a reputation behind it, the Studebaker, South Bend, Ind. Some one is advertising they are building wagons out of white oak and hickory. Why, this is an everyday occurrence with Studebakers for the last fifty years and still at it. The world’s best mower and binder, the McCormick, also the McCormick hay rake; they have double coil teeth which makes them more than as good again as the single coil. For a manure spreader the Success Is the world’s best. It regulates the number of loads you wish to put on an acre. I have other articles for sale, Clover Leaf stock tonic and poultry tonic. Guaranteed to give satisfaction or money refunded. Extras for all machines I sell. On Front street, north of the Postoffice and just across the street from King’s blacksmith shop. C. A. ROBERTS. Deafness Cannot be Cored by local applications, as they cannot reach the diseased portion of the ear. There is only one way to cure deafness, and that is by constitutional remedies. Deafness is caused by an inflamed condltiorf of the mucous lining: of the Eustachian Tube. When this tube is Inflamed you have a rumbling sound or imperfect hearing, and when it is entirely closed, deafness is the result, and unless the inflammation can be taken out and this tube restored to its normal condition, hearing will be destroyed forever; nine cases out of ten are caused by Catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed condition of the mucous surfaces. We will give One Hundred Dollars for any case of Deafness (caused by catarrh) that cannot be cured by Hall’s Catarrh Cure. Send for circulars, free. F. J. CHENEY & CO, Toledo, O.
