Several Are Contracting to Raise a Few Pickles.
John Resh, foreman for the Illinois Pickle Co., has had some assistance in securing contracts from small farmers to raise pickles the coming .year. The soliciting work was begun a trifle late, but nevertheless a great many are going to raise ?ome pickles and thus we will get in line for a larger business another year. The Commercial Club has received a letter from the company’s manager at Bloomington which indicates that the company may not stop with the erection of a salting station here. It is known that they have figured for some time on putting a canning factory in this county and Mr. Resh favors the erection of the factory here in Rensselaer.
The letter from the company reads: “We are glad to note that your commercial club is taking hold of this proposition and we shall be pleaded if from 100 to 150 acres can be contraced as this will make a very respectable showing and we can assure you that if we get established in Rensselaer we will take on other things besides pickles another year. “Pickle growing is a very profitable industry and when well established leaves several thousand dollars a year in the place where the Baiting station is located. We therefore trust that you will be successful In getting a very liberal acreage contracted.” Chas. Bowers has been assisting Mr. Resh in getting the project before our farmers. If ownprs of a few acres near Rensselaer or if others can spare a few acres they oan be planted n pickles and return the owner many fold. If the pickle business can be started here it will bring many dollars to this city. It Is worthy the investigation of any farmer, while The small land owner can not afford to pass it up.
