Former Rensselaer Boy Successful in Chicago.
** Alfred W. Hopkins, brother of ArthUT H. and Albert R. Hopkins, of Rensselaer, Is one of a number of Rensselaer boys who have succeeded in larger fields. For the past fourteen years he has been engaged in business in Chicago and e|ph year has seen him ascend a rung or two on the ladder of business success. Mr. Hopkins, or Alf, as he is known here, is not a very frequent visl;>r here, coming occasionally for a short stay. He is making one of these visits at this time, having come down. Friday evening to remain until Sunday evening. For some years he has been at the head of the business, and one of the features of the business is finding safe investments at a good interest rate for persons with a reasonable amount of capital. Having built up a successful business along this Une be has drganized a company under the name of the Chicago Commercial & Specialty Co., of Which he is president. The company takes up various trade specialties of merit,promotes them and places them on the market. Meritorious Inventions whose patentees are unable to get their articles before the public are often taken up, and the company supplies the capital and employs experts to place the article or the market He is also the president of the National Brokerage Co., which is doinj an extensive business. Mr. Hopkins is given a first rating by the commercial agencies, and also by the Englewood First National Bank and his ambition is to have the name of Alfred W. Hopkins recognized as the head of stable companies and a guarantee to all who are seeding careful investments for capital. For some time his company has been represented in the advertising columns of the Republican. His many friends in his old home will be glad to learn of his success in the big White City.
