COLLEGE VILLE.
Last Sunday evening the C. L. ft. entertained the students and faculty with a literary program. The efforts of all the participants were, indeed, commendable. The senior society again demonstrated to us that they are very much alive and active. This was the last entertainment they will render this year excepting the commencement drama. Mr. H. Post and D. McShane debated the subject: “The newspapers do more to mould public opinion than any or all other agencies”. Both speakers had the pros and cons on their finger points and illustrated their arguments with numerous historical examples. Their talks were well worth listening to. Mr. McShane returned victor, his arguments being more pointed and delivered with more telling effect. The gentlemen need only continue to exercise their oratorical ability and they will be heard from later. The orchestra furnished the musio for the occasion. They rendered three numbers and all were enthusiastically received. Whatever grudge the weatherman has against the Varsity he. is forcing them to feel all of its dire effects. Of the five games they have played net one has been in favorable weather conditions. Sunday’s game wl’h the Y. M. 1., of Lafayette, had to be cancelled owing to wet grounds. There is no. other game scheduled for this week. The College baseball league is living up to its old reputation. The boys play some good games. Last Saturday’s game went ten innings with the score 7 to 8. Both Green and Retinger are coming pitchdrs. Saturday afternoon a number of Rensselaer hopefuls appeared on the college diamond to teach the little lads here a little baseball. After the fun was over the score showed two tallies in favor of the home aggregation. Perfection in eeal ell and gasoline stoves Is attained In the “Detroit Taper* , B. D. RHOADES A SOW.
