Former Survey Must Have Been Faulty.
When Dr. J. W. Horton and Roth Bros, began preparations to build their new business block this spring, Roth Bros, bought six inches of land of the J. W. Williams’ heirs, so that they would own a half Interest in the division wall. They had purchased feet front of Dr. Horton, and the building arrangements have been progressing. It has just been found that the rear end of the Williams building sets over on the Roth lot and also the rear of the Roth and Horton lots is not as wide as the front end by about a foot. Thus, if Dr. Horton should go on with his building plans and erect a building as wide. in the back as it is in front, the Roth building space would be a foot narrower in the back than it is in front. And if Roths have their. full space the Horton building will be likewise out of proportion. The parties are confronting the situation in a friendly way and will probably adjust it satisfactorily.
Lowell has long bedn annoyed and the lives of its citizens endangered by fast and reckless automobile driving, largely by Chicago parties. One day last week an auto occupied by four men, one of the Mr. Robbins, the head of a big auto salesroom in Chicago, almost struck several people in LoWell, and according to several people the driver was under the influence of liquor and was whipping the car through the streets at the rate of 50 miles or more an hour, and .there were several narrow escapes. Word was telephoned to Crown Point, where the men stopped at a saloon to bowl up and they were
arrested and fined SSO and costs. Later the Justice of the Peace remitted $35 of the fine, but it still cost Robbins $36.60. The prosecution was entirely right and careless driving should be reported to the proper authorities and the guilty parties punished. The minimum fine for conviction of driving an automobile faster than the maximum speed set by law while In an intoxicated condition is SSO. Much complaint has been made in Rensselaer lately about resident auto owners driving at night without their lamps lighted. This Is a habit that the owners should not fall into and If they persist in a violation of the law, they should be prosecuted and that will Kxn break up a bad and dangerous habit
