Bates and daughter,Mrs. W. J. Wright, went to Broad Ripple, Tues day afternoon to attend the funeral of his brother, Dr. J. W. Bates. John Knox went to Lafayette today for a short visit with his brother,. Rufus. Will Knox, of Chicago, is also visiting there. Spencer county went wet yesterday by 53, Pulaski went dry by about 400, and Clay gives a dry majority of 2,203. __ Mrs. A. J. Biggs and Mrs. C. E. Duvall Went to West Lebanon Sunday to attend the funeral of Mrs. Fred Biggs, wife of A. J.’s brother. Mrs. Geo. P. Ketchum and Miss Bessie Moody are this afternoon entertaining a large number of ladies at the home of the former on College avenue. ■ » Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Richardson of Hanging Grove township, returnee' home yesterday from Jamestown, Ind., where they had been called to attend the funeral of his father, T. J. Richardson. Mrs. A. W. Prater, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. William Blankenbaker, at Parr, for the past two weeks, took the train here this morning for her home in Edinburg, 111. Mrs. John Mohler, who lived with her husband at the corner of Dayton and Vine streets, was found to be Insane by a commission composed of Squire S. C. Irwin and Drs. English, Kresler and Gwin. She will be taken to Longcllffe. The DSPaul University base ball team came down from Chieago this morning to meet the St. Joe boys and the game is being played this afternoon on the college grounds. DePaul is the old St. Vincent school, for several years base ball rivals of St. Joe. Irvin Lewis, son of County Assessor John Q. Lewis, is getting along nicely on his South Dakota claim. H< is 9 miles from Dixon and 3 miles from lona, where he gets his mail. He is getting his crop in and considers prospects very good. A new rural mail route has been established out of Dixon and goes right past his door, and Irvin made a hit by selecting the claim he did. - -
Moses Evans, 73 years of age, who worked for Joseph Adams for eleven years, same to see him last Thursday. He came here from Bluffton, although he had spent the winter in Illinois. Tuesday morning he suffered a paralytic stroke that is almost certain to result fatally. He got Op early and helped clean out the stable and was apparently In the very best of health. Mr. Adams was at the house and when breakfast was ready and Evans did not come a search was made and he was found bending over the manger and unconscious. He was removed to the house and a doctor called. He has since beep unable to speak and his death will probably ensue. He is an old bachelor. Two nephews, A L. Simmons and W. H. Adams, of Linden, came yesterday to see him, returning to their home this morning.
