D. M. Worland had such success in his rug sale this week that he had to make a trip to Chicago Wednesday to purchase more rugs to conclude his sale on. Get in this week if you are a bargain hunter. Fred Longwell and wife and son returned to Brook yesterday, after a short stay in Rensselaer. Fred is the prosecuting attorney in this district and made a favorable impression here in the cases in which he appeared. Harry Shirey and wife returned yesterday from a week’s visit with relatives at Sheridan. During his absence Jacob Vanderberg served aa night agent. He wHI now go to St John to relieve G. W. King for about a month. Tbe Monon bridge over the Calumet river at Hammond was disabled for a few hours this morning and trains from the north were unable to get through for several hours. On this account the Chicago papers did not reach here until the 10:55 train arrived. Will Knox came down from Chicago yesterday for a short visit wl’.h his parents here. He is changing his position in Chicago, having accepted a clerkship in another drug store and his vacation will last until he takes his new Job on May 10th. He will spend part of the time with fa is brother, Rufus, at Lafayette. Mrs. W. E. Jacks returned yesterday evening from Chicago, where she had been since the operation on her daughter, Florence, at the Hahnemann hospital. Florence has borne her sufferings with the greatest patience and fortitude and is making very satisfactory recovery. The *ldn grafting seems to hare been entirely satisfactory, all of it having adhered and it Is thought the opor-iti-n will largely overcome the deformity resulting from the severe burns sustained about nine years ago. Miss Mary Jacks is temporarily with her sister and will remain until Mr*. Jacks returns after a few days’ rest at home.
