£ Last Sunday the local team met the college boys to* play off tile game that was delayed by a sogging rain on the previous Sunday. In spite ol the chilly wind that made it somewhat uncomfortable for the spectators, there was a fairly good crowd Which proved even enthusiastic whenever the local boys seemed to have a ray of hope for sending some one across the plate: But their hopes were never realized and the fraj ended with the rather onesided score of 7 to 0. A The contest was more spirited, however, than the score would seem to indicate. .Geo. McGurren was on the slab for the college and twirled a magnificent gams, allowing but four‘widely scattered hits. The little pitcher was the marvel of all the spectators both on account of his deceptive balls and his extraordinary speed and control. He generally rev tired his opponents With one or two strike-outs and one or two scratch hits, with sure one’s nit. Nageleisen did clever work behind the bat and the reßt of the college team 1b fast roundlhg Into good form. Rensselaer started with two bad innings. The new man, Van Huff, the local team had secured for pitcher, was pounded for six hits and five runs in less than two Innings. He had no fair chance as yet to show what he can do, but he certainly proved an easy proposition for the college boys last Sunday. Captain Wilcox then sent Swartzell to the mound to stop the onslaught and he did It very effectively. For the remaining six innings he permitted but six hits and with better support he might have kept the college from scoring altogether.
