Cornerstone of New Chapel to Be Laid Sunday, May 2.
It has been decided at St. Joseph’s College that the cornerstone laying for the new chapel will be on Sunday, May 2d. It was also decided not to make so much of a ceremony of the cornerstone laying, owing to it being a very busy time of the year and to the fact that the commencement at St. Joseph's will occur shortly after that time. The dedication, which will probably take place in September, will be made a great event and will probably’’bring a great many people here from distant points.
The Republican was misinformed about Governor Marshal being invited and having accepted the invitation to come here for the cornerstone laying. We are now informed by Father Seifert, Rector of the College, that nd thought had been given of having him here on that occasion. It is probable that Right Reverened Monsigtiore Oechtering, Vicar General of the Diocese' of Fort. Wayne, will be here, will deliver the address and kiss the cornerstone. The event will occur on Sunday afternoon, May 2d, and while no effort will be made to draw a large crowd the ceremony will be public and Rensselaer people and the people from the surrounding country will be welcome.
