Baseball Season Opens at St Joseph’s College Sunday.
With the return of spring and the opening of the base ball season in the big leagues, the local lovers of the national game are no doubt looking for some entertainment in their favorite pastime. They will have an opportunity of seeing the first game next Sunday when the "Wrens" will meet the College team for a season opener on the latter’s diamond. The local boys have a few new men who will be given a chance to show what they can do and the College team will try the new line-up. Geo. Hassar, the great twirler for the college boys, will pitch a few innings and the rest of the game will be taken care of with Leo McGurren or L. Faurot in the box.
The game will be called at 3:15 p. m. and an admission of 15 cents will be charged. Umpire, Syl. Hinnen. LINE-UP. The Wrens. St. Joseph’s. E. Wilcox, e. L. Nageleisen, c Huff, p.-2b. Geo. Harold, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Clark, who is a student at the state home for the deaf, is a member this year of the first Silent Hoosier’s team, and they are slated to play Saturday at Lebanon. Harold is now 17 years of age and is a first class pitcher and infielder.
The local ball boys have been warming up some the last few days. Huff, the little tinner at Warner’s, has every evidence of being a crack pitcher. He has steam and a fine mix of curves, with a slow ball that should fool any batter. He is tolerably wild as yet but if he can get control he should be just the man Rensselaer needs. Wilcox catches him perfectly. Jerry Seese also looks good. Parcells, whose name was accidentally omitted from the list yesterday, will take his old place at shortstop.
