W. S. Haggard Is Appointed Commandant at Soldiers’ Home.

The board of trustees of the state soldiers' home at Lafayette Tuesday appointed W. S. Haggard, of Lafayette, as commandant of that institution to succeed Col. Richard M. Smock, of Indianapolis. \ Mr. Haggard is the present representative of Tippecanoe county in the state legislature, and some years ago was lieutenant-governor of the state. He was instrumental in securing the soldiers’ home for Lafayette. His term of office is for three years beginning May Ist, and Col. Smock has served two terms. Graduation exercises were held Tuesday evening at the state soldiers' home, and six young ladies received diplomas from the nurses’ training school of the home hospital. Among the graduates was Miss Fern Osborne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Osborne, who went from here to attend the exercises.
