Ex-Sheriff O’Connor Learns More About Bittle’s Imprisonment.
Sheriff O’Connor wrote to the warden of the state prison at Lancaster, Neb., to learn about Frank Dittle, the man who escaped from the Jasper county jail a year ago last August, and finds that Dittle is a bad naan, probably one of the most hardened criminals that wgs ever Incarcerated in this county. That he was as smooth as he was wicked is proven by the methods he employed to convince the officials that he was innocent and that his imprisonment here was persecution. His jail breaking also showed that he was experienced in the criminal methods of escape after arrest. John McCoy, charged with criminal assault, and who escaped through the same hole that Dittle had made by sawing a bar off the window, was a sluggish fellow and probably had nothing to do with the plan of escape, but he made good bis get-away for no trace of him was ever found. Here is the response Mr. O’Connor received from Nebraska: Ex-Sheriff Jasper County, Ind. Dear Sir: Your letter and circular respecting Frank Dittle received and will say that he is here in this prison for horse stealing, sent up from Dodge county, Oct. 3rd, 1908, for seven years. This term will expire Nov. 3rd, 1913. He also did time in Sioux Falls for some offiense and at Joliet for bigamy. If I can be of further service let me know. Respectfully yours, JAMES DELAHANTY, Deputy Warden. Royal Flour, the best. Home Grocery
