Wells, of DeMotte, was in Rensselaer yesterday. ... Mrs. Ann White, of Tefft, was a Rensselaer visitor yesterday. Chas. Rishling and wife went to Lafayette this morning to visit relatives. Mrs. Joseph R. Kight, of Thayer, is spending today with her daughter, Mrs. A. G. Catt. The G. E. Murray Co. are advertising their young men’s and boys’ clothing in this issue. Mrs. Elmer Osman, of Benton Harbor, Mich,., is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Timmons. Misses Grace Norris and Belle LaRue returned to their school work at DePauw this morning. H. W. Jackson went to Farmer City, 111., tjjis morning to see his sister, Mrs. Hannah Heller, who is quite ill. Mrs. J. M. Wasson and Mrs. J. J. Hunt returned this morning from their visit with A. E. Coen and wife at Berwyn, 111. Mrs. J. E. Winslow, of Fair Oaks, and her mother, Mrs. Joseph Allen, of Davenport, lowa, were in Rensselaer yesterday. County Truant Officer C. B. Steward went to the north end of the county this morning, having some official duties at Wheatfield. Montgomery, Greene and .Benton counties all voted dry at the elections hid Tuesday. Larson and daughter Mabel left this morning for Chicago, where Mr. Larson preceded them and where they expect to make their future home.
Mrs. John Jungles and three children,. of Homer, 111., returned to their home this morning after a visit of about a week with the family of Michael Jungles, near Kniman. James Craig was down from Thayer yesterday. He has lost a hundred pounds in weight in the last two or three years and is still about the biggest man in either Newton or Jasper counties. Mrs. Leander J. Renicker and children left this morning for Minot, N. Dak., where they have resided for several years. They have been spending the winter in Indiana, largely with relatives at Piermont. The Smith-Kelner-Day company finally got in plenty of -stone to complete the college church foundation. Four loads came in yesterday and eight today. The hauling had to be suspended this morning on account of the heavy rain.

T. M. Burns was here a short time yesterday and went to Chicago on the afternoon train. He has a big job of brick work under his charge for a building that is being erected on Madison street in the city and will be there for some time, and if other work shows up he will probably be there all summer. A thunder storm occurred In the night last night, the first real noisy storm of the spring. Today it has rained about all day, and quite heavily at times. IL started in like a spring rain and was warm and cheering but this afternoon it is colder and also gloomier. The forecast is for still more rain and still colder. Miss Ora Yeoman, daughter of O. A Yeoman, has been in Oklahoma City, Okla., since her graduation from the high school here almost two years ago. She is now the bookkeeper and treasurer of a large Wholesale millinery store in that city. She has been indisposed for the past two weeks, but writes to her father that she will be able to resume her work next Monday.
