City Council Holds Its Regular Session
The city council met Monday night but did not transact any business of importance. The telephone franchise was not mentioned and it is probable that the matter is an issue of the past. Tfee probability .is that the company and the .city could never get together on a plan that the public would approve that would embody the suggestion of City Attorney Williams relating to an Increase of the rates following the installation of a new system, and providing a limit of interest the company could make on the investment; all beyond that earning going into the city treasury. The public generally seems to think that the rates should not be changed, although there are a number who would have been willing to have seen the rates raised provided it would have given better service. The service is not of the best by any means ‘now, there being an unusual amount of cross talk, but when the storm damage is overcome the service will probably be as good as it was before the calamity occurred. The city, marshal was instructed to notify property owners who have private sewers runnipg into the river that they must extend them to the new channel. Horatio Ropp and others petitioned for the narrowing of Leopold street. The street is in Leopold’s addition and if reduced in width the property would be divided between the owners on either side of the street. The petition was referred to the city attorney to‘prepare a resolution. All members of the council were present except Irwin.
