BOY CAPTURES BIG PICKEREL.

Head es Huge Fish Sent to Game Commissioner’s Office. Indianapolis Star—The head of what is said to be the biggest pickerel ever caught in Indiana water was received yesterday at the office of the deputy state fish and game commissioner in the State House. By actual measurement the head is 9 inches long, 7 inches wide, 5 inches deep and 5% inches thick. The mouth is 6 inches wide and measures around the row of needle teeth just eleven inches. The big fish was caught about two weeks ago in the Kankakee marshes near Schneider, v It in by John Gaspar, a huntsman of that district, who tells the story of a small boy who found the big fish in the marsh waters, where it had evidently raced in chase of smaller fry. The boy captured it in his arms and in spite of flaps held on until he landed it. It weighed thirty-one pounds. Thia la the most dangerous time of the year to catch cold, and it is the hardest time to cure it If you should take a cold, a flaw doses of Kennedy’s Laxative Cough Syrup will act very promptly. Its laxative principle cures the cold by driving it from the system by a gentle but natural action of the bowels. Children especially like Kennedy’s Laxative Cough Syrup, as it tastes so good, nearly like maple sugar. It is sold by all druggists.

HEALTH BOARD NOTICE.

There has been some response to the request for cleaning out vaults, and a good deal of work has already been done, but there is a disposition on the part of some to put it off and to think a collection of from one to a few years amounts to nothing. The less there is the less the expense of cleaning, and this" Ts a general order and is to hold good all over the town, no difference being made between you and your neighbor. If it is good for one it’s good far all, and as the City Board of Health and County Health Officer have made this a general order there should be a hearty response instead of requesting the scavengers to come around some time later. The men are here now and the work should be done as soon as you can secure them. Please don’t resort to excuses, but clean them all out. You will be prouder of your town then, and it will be a much healthier place in which to live. CITY BOARD OF HEALTH.

Frequently our Sunday school friends want to know some of the following bible terms. Both are lawyers, both have many ideas in common, both now live in the same Washington hotel, both have rooms in the House office building as close together as It was possible to get them (there is only one room between them), and in the selection of seats in the house one got right behind the other, so they can keep close company with each other, no matter where they may be.

Skeleton of Man Found On the Kankakee Marsh.

A hunter named Hall, of Thayer, who acts as a guide to visiting hunters, found the skeleton of a man in the south marsh, near Ash Island, about three miles from Thayer Monday. He was hunting and stumbled across the skeleton, which was under water. He caught hold of the skull and raised it out of the water and found that it was the full skeleton of a man, dressed in clothes of apparently fair quality. The clothing was rotten and the flesh was all gone from the bones although the bones still clung together. . “ ' In one pocket was found a nickle case, open face watch, with an elk’s head on the back. On his coat lapel, was a Woodmen’s pin. A pocketbook with no money in it was also found. The feet were still in the alligator laced boots, but the flesh was about all gone from them. Apparently the body had been there six months or more. JThe coroner of Newton county was called to hold an inquest over the skeleton. —- ————

The Kicker Is Always Due for a Long Best

The merchant who sits on the cracker box waiting for mail-order houses to be legislated out of the business is due for a long rest. He is the kind of competition the catalogue house wants. The live merchant has another way of doing. He forgets all about the supply house, takes off his coat and goes after trade, spends some money in Judicious advertising, keeps a good stock of seasonable goods and is courteous to his He never tells anyone what poor stuff the supply houses sell and how badly they treat suckers. He advertises no ones business but his own, and that he advertises generously, thereby displaying his wisdom and knowledge of success.

Young Man Injured at St Joseph’s College.

Percy Longfellow, who was stranded here when McKnight, the hypnotist, pulled out, and who has been working at St. Joseph’s college as a laborer, was quite painfully injured there this Tuesday morning. A horse kicked him as he was going past it and he was knocked over a wheelbarrow and injured in the left groin, and possibly suffered internal injuries to the bowel. He was in great pain and it was found necessary to administer morphine to alleviate the misery. He and his wife and baby are boarding at Mrs. Pumphrey’s boarding house on Front' street.
