THE HOME THAT APPEALS.
- It is not the mansion of wealth that appeals to all. But the houpe we like .is one that represents home. It is cosy, pretty, artistic, convenient to the trade portion of the city, yet situated far enough out where fresh air is obtainable. It is a place to go after the busy working hours of the day, and men who know what brain tag is, will hasten from the turmoil of life down in the busy city to seek the cosy home, be it even one of the most modest structures upon his street.
To a man of discriminating taste -and limited means who is looking forward to building his own home, it behooves him to buy a lot in a growing district, and let the town grow up with his own house. First the location can be carefully selected; next the lots will be cheaper and he' can take time about planning the house. But the man, alone, should not plan the work, providing he has a wife, for she will know* more about the interior plans, since every woman is a born architect, in a sense, and knows how to conveniently plan the best places for closets, cupboard room and have everything adjusted for Saving steps. A home large enough for your needs, pmall enough for your pocketbook, and artistic enough in Itsfllf and surroundings to be attractive to the friend and visitor, is more than a satisfaction. It is not necessary, providing one has a fair salary, to have a mushroom house, erect it one day, furnish it the next, and live in it the third. The ambitious homeseeker is willing to let a few rooms go undecorated or unfurnished for a time, gradually leading up to its completion. It is possible to build a few rooms, adding a room or two rooms each year or so until the desired number are obtained. Thanks to our modern architects, they have given us good information relative to such plans, thus making it possible for even a poor man to own his own home, and thus avoid heavy rents. By the time the house ip completed, others will have been built and the expense will be far less than borrowing money or plunging into mortgages. Of course to have a pretty house as well as a good home will depend upon the exertion of the man to furnish such, after which the wife can be depended upon to give the finishing touches that give to a house the atmosphere of the home beautiful.
