N. J. York’s sickness developed into a case of pneumonia and tor a few days hit condition was quite serious. The crisis was passed Tuesday and it left him very, weak but the fever subsided and he will probably make rapid progress toward recovery now if no complications set in. Recent mails brought to this office two postal cards from Cuba. One is from Matanzas, where Charley Otis was when the card was mailed. It pictures the Yumuri valley near that city. The other card is from Emerson Coen, a U. S. sailor boy on the battleship New Hampshire. It is a photo postal and shows him in the jackey blue dress uniform. He wrote from Guantanama bay and says in reference to his picture: “This may not stop your clock but is liable to set it back two or three hours. It is fine down here.”
In renewing her subscription to the Semi-Weekly Republican Mrs. W. O. Clark, of Mitchell, S. Dak., writes: “We look forward every week to our home paper, as we read of many of our friends in it. We have all enjoyed good health this winter and we like Dakota very much. Our winter has been fine with the exception of two or three snow storms, still no damage was done and no one suffered, not even the stock. We have moved on a farm of 640 acres and are settled for five years at least. Mr. Porter and family arrived and are settled in their new home and all seem very much Pleased with Dakota. All the Jasper county people are well as far as we know and are prospering here and al! send best regards to our Jasper county friends.” Mrs. Clark is the mother of Will Clark and they moved to a farm near Mitchell a year ago.
