Sunday Base Ball Bill Is to Become a Law.
The Sunday baseball bill will • become a law without the sanction of Governor Marshall. The Senate passed the seeond Brolley bill Thursday, which seeks to legalize the playing,of games on Sunday between the hours of 1- p. m. and 6 p. m., and shortly before 3 o’clock the enrolled act was taken, to the governor tor his cinsideratien. Three hours later the Govei nor sent a message to the HouSe With tne information that he Would deposit the enrolled bill with the secietary bf‘ state at the expiration of three days, with neither his signature nor his veto, S#- the result of-which it will become a law. Marshall expressed a wish that he could have vetoed the bill. ■His reasons for not do|ng so aie expressed in his message, chief among; .them being that the Legislature has Once disagreed with him on the question, and he does not depire to be considered as taking advan age of the legislative branch of the government, especially at this lata day in the session. Governor Marshall's reasons to neither! approving nor disapproving the measures are clearly set forth in his message. He would not sign tne measure because he believes it is unconstitutional. He Would not veto it because he had once expressed his views to the Legislature on the same subject, and the members had disagreed with him. The Governor had been urged, he said in his message, to veto the bill because by so doing he could at least prevent the playing of baseball on Sundays for two years. But, to quote one sentnee from the message, "I am not one of those who believes that the end justifies the means.” Now that this bill is to become a law there is a Strong probability that Rensselaer will) have a first class ball team this year, and that Sunday gam s will be made a feature. Last year Sunday games were played but as no • admission was char ged the best games could not be secured.
