A rathpr strange circumstance was brought about by the recent death of Chas. Penwrlght’4 mother. On or about the same date that a letter left this country for England informing Mrs. Penwright’s brother there of her’death, a letter left England* for Mrs. Penwright telling her of her brother’s death. We were unable to learn if their deaths were on the same date or not—Mt. Ayr Pilot Ed. F. Mills, son of Mrs. Chas. E. Mills, of this city, who has been working for the past five years with the Western Electric Co., in Chicago, will leave tomorrow for Montana, where he is considering the purchase of some, land and where himself and wife will probably make their home. His wife will come here in a few days to remain until he decides on a location in the west The following people assembled together last Friday night and marched to the home of Mrs. Erhest T. Jones, on Mulberry St, and reminded her of 41st birthday anniversary, surprising her n a very agreeable manner, as she was not looking for anyone. Mr. and Mrs. Otha Williams, Mr. and Mrs. ] W. C. Milikan, Mrs. M. Trimble, l Misses Zola and Carolyn Woods, Roxie McCurdy, Mary Williams* Novella, Lucille and Stella Burns, Elsie Dearth, Lavina and Daisy Baldwin, Hazel Jones and Miss Janney of Franklin; Messrs. Louis Knott, Ed Gray, Harry Burns, George Crooks, Charles Smith, Jesse Millikan and E. T. Jones. A nice lunch was served and all had an enjoyable time, and hoping to meet on the same occasion next year, they departed for their homes. —Lebanon 0,, Patriot Mr. and Mrs. Jones Were former residents of Rensselaer.

Herbert Zea is now working in a cago. Mrs. Chas. Nelson went to Kouts today to visit friends over Sunday. Miss Edna Thompson went to Paoli, Ind,, yesterday to visit relathes of H. R. Kurie. I Chas. Robinson, of Battle Ground, Is here today visiting his mother and other relatives. Mrs. J. C. Parrett returned this morning from a week’s visits with relatives at Chalmers. Ed Szymonsfci, a student at St. Joseph’s college,* went to his home at Gary today to remain over Sunday. C. U. Branaman, who served three years in the 14th cavalry, Is here visiting his sister, Mrs. Harry McGee. Miss Goldie Stockton, who has been visiting her parents In Jordan township, left yesterday for Janesv lie, Wls, where she is engaged as a professional nurse. James Fay, of Parr, returned home this morning after a Short visit here with his sister, Mrs. Kellner. He has been in very poor bealtn for the past three years. The suggestion last year that the Washington street bridge be painted white was approved by a gieat many. It might be carried into execution this year with good effect ■ Miss Nellie Courtright returned to Knox this moniing after a visit of a week with her sister, Mrs. Jacob Wagner and Mrs. L. L. Markley, at the home of the latter, west of Rensselaer.

Mrs. E. G. Warren and children will leave next Tuesday for their future home in Oklahoma. Miss Grace Warren has been at DeMotte for a few days and will join the family at Shelby Tuesday. Farmers who came to town th's morping report that they saw several farmers ploughing in the fields. If the weather remains nice it is probable that considerable oats will be sown the coming week. Mrs. Laura Luts has rented the E. G. Warren house and will move there next week.' They have been occupying the Jas. Matheson house, and Mr. Matheson expects to return to Rensselaer soon and occupy the house himself.
