Dague May Not Be Prosecuted.

In his capacity as prosecuting attorney Fred Longwell is confrcn'ed with the unpleasant duty of having charge of the prosecution cf the cases against W. H. Dague, which are pending in the Newton circuit court. He has known Mr. Dague since he was a little chap and the latter has always been very kind to him. Mr. Longwell is engaged In making a thorough investigation of the affairs of Baldwin and Dague with the hope that it will develops that the defunct banking concern was solvent at the time the auditor cf state closed their doors. If tnie is the case; the prosecution against Mr. Dague will not be pushed. At present it appears that tke Baldwin & Dague banks will be able to pay about 80 per cent without touching the Baldwin estate which is now in litigation between the heirs. There is a leasehold of over a million acres of land in Arizona which may be wot th something and an equity in a six thousand acre ranch in Colorado which is thought to be valuab a These will be Investigated before the case comes to trial. It would be pleasing to a great many people if it can be demonstrated that the concern was solvent as there is no wish, in this community at least, to see Mr. Dague prosecuted. He has done all in his power to set matters right and It is universally conceded that he did no.wrong intentionally. There is no spirit of vindictiveness that demands that his declining days be shadowed by a criminal prosecution. —Fowler Republican.
