Poor Farm Inmate Gets $1,500.
Mrs. Katharine Douglass, of Monticello, was an inmate of the Wh te county poor farm because of her poverty and her inability to eain a living for herself. Attorneys Sailers and Graves, of Monticello, learned th I she had an Interest in land near Hammond, which had been appropriated by the Standard Steel Co., and in the Lake county circuit court began an effort to recover for their client Before the plaintiff’s evidence was half in, the attorneys for the defense began negotiating* for a compromise and the sum of |1,500 was agreed upon. Mrs. Douglass can now leave the poor house and will probably have sufficient money to keep her the remainder of her life.
