GOVERNOR VETOES BASEBALL BILL
... Indianapolis, Feb/ 26,—Governor Marshall today vetoed the bill passed / by the Legislature permitting baseball On Sunday. He harshly criticised the members responsible for the passage of the bill. i# ' The text of the bill to. permit the play Jpg of Sunday baseball as it was 1 passed' in the senate and concurred in by the house, is as follows, the capital letters indicating amendments which were made in the, senate: « Section 468. It shall be unlawful for any person or persons to engage in playing any game of base ball, foot ball or other gdme where any fee is charged or where any reward or prize, or profit, or article of value is depending on the result of such game, on the first day of the week, commonly called § unday. BETWEEN THE HOURS OF FIVE A. M. AND ONE P. M. Provided, THAT SUCH CAME OR GAMES SHALL NQT Bs3 PLAYED on 1 Sunday between the hours of ONE and SIX o'clock in the afternoon, not less than 1,000 feet distance from any established house of worship or permanent church structure used for religious services. AND SAID DISTANCE FROM ANY PUBLIC HOSPITAL ERECTED OR ESTABLISHED PRIOR TO THE PASSAGE OF THIS ACT; and provided that such game or games are conducted in .an orderly manner. NO STATUTE OF THIS STATE SHALL BE CONSTRUED TO PREVENT SUCH GAME OR GAMES SUNDAY BETWEEN THE HOURS OF. ONE O'CLOCK IN THE AFTERNOON /UNDER THE RESTRICTION HEREIN CONTAINED. Any person violating the provisions of this act shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and on conviction, shall be fined hot exceeding |26.- ~r
