Golden Wedding in West Carpenter.
Tuesday, Feb. 23d, being the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Waterman, two and one half miles east of their neighbors and friends had arranged to celebrate the event.. At about -11 o’clock they arrived with baskets filled to overflowing. The following literary program was rendered: Solo and chorus, “When you and I were young, Maggie,” sung by Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Fell, Mr. A. A. Fell and Mrs. P. A. Rowland. Recitation, “The Golden Wedding,” one of Will Carletdn’s poems, by Chas. A. Welch. “A Golden Wedding,” by Mrs. Easterly, was read by Vietta Rowland. Solo and chorus, haggle’s Answer,” by Quartette. The guests were then told to prepare for dinner, and were served with; a bountiful repast, the great quantity and excellent quality of which is beyond the power of the writer to describe; after which the literary program was continued. A poem, ‘‘The Golden Wedding,” composed by Nixon Waterman, a second cousin of the groom, written for the occasion, was read by Mrs. W. N. Waterman. Geo. Welch, in Behalf of the guests, with a few appropriate remarks, presented Mr. Waterman with a gold headed cane, and Mrs. Waterman with a cameo brooch and a set of souvenir teaspoons. W. N. Waterman responded to this very nicely, and while the quartette was rendering the chorus, “Help to set the world rejoicing I ', the company congratulated the bride and groom. The following guests were present: Mr and Mrs. W. N. Waterman, of Chicago; Mr. Chas. Bonney, Sr., and daughter, Callie, and A. # A. Fell, of Remington; Mr. and Mrs. E. Brown, Mr. and Mrs. S. Hamilton, Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Rowland and daughter, Vietta, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Robins and sister, Amelia, Mr. and Mrs. A, J. Goldsberry, Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Babcock, Mr. and Mrs. George Welch and brother, William, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Fell and daughter, Honor, Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Johnson, Mrs; E. E. Rockwood, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Fox, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Welch, all of Goodland and vicinity. Everyone went home rejoicing that they were permitted to be present at so rare an occasion.
