Mrs. Joseph Nagel went to Lafayette today to visit relatives and to consult the specialist who operated on her for gall stones some time ago, it being his request that she return there for examination six weeks after leaving the hospital. Harrison Warren arrived here this morning from Peru to close. up the sale of his 10 acre tract just north of town to Will O. Schanlaub, the superintendent of the Newton county school Will pays $2,000 for the land, which has a good house on it. A fire one day last week consumed the residence of J. Francis, 3 miles south of Wheatfield, together with all the contents, entailing a loss of about $1,600. The house was a good new one having been built in 1907. It was insured in J. C. Porter’s agency for $1,300. ' The high school boys played the crack St Joe team at the college last evening and were defeated by the score of 67 to 13. The college will play a game here in about three weeks. Harry Parker, the successful football coach has now taken charge of the basketball team and is getting very good results from the practice. Archie Lee, the chap who had such a hard time with his appendicitis operation, was able to take a sled ride this morning, and propped up with pillows in a cutter he enjoyed a nice spin over the snow. His daily improvement isnow quite marked and very gratifying to his parents and many friends. Mrs. A. Halleck is improving very satisfactorily and is now practically out of danger. Senator Halleck returned to Indianapolis on the early train this morning and Mrs. L. N. Wells will return to DeMotte today. The services of the trained nurse are retained until the recovery is beyond doubt Lowell has reorganized its poultry association and has given it the new name of the Northwestern, Indiana Poultry and Corn Association. Dr. J. A. Dinwiddle is prudent, E. N. Gragg, treasurer, and Frank Maloy, secretary. The membership is now 25 and the fee for admission is $5. The date for the next show has not been decided upon. Hammond will be the basketball attraction here Friday night, play in j the high school team at the armory. This will be the first game for Hammond on its big trip, which includes games at Lebanon and other places. The Hammond Times says that their team is looking for a hard game here, and are putting themselves in the best of condition. Luther Randle, formerly of this county and a student in the Rensselaer high school, is now the bookkeeper in the City Drug Stoe at Mangum, Okla., to which place his parents moved a year ago. In a short letter to the Republian Luther says his family are all well and ask to be remembered to their Rensselaer "and Jasper county friends. * The little Schroeder girl/' so the Hammond Times says, was not the only innocent that the fiend Gagle attempted to outrage. The Times tells of seven other cases in which the Intended victim escaped. Gagle was taken to the scene of the murder l of the Schroedeer girl and broke down and wept. He is now in the Crown Point Jail. The City Light Superintendent has been diligently after the repairs to the light plant poles and wires and thinks that by tonight he will be able to connect up the sections that have been disabled since the sleet Sunday The worst damage seems to have been in the neighborhood of the W. J. Imee residence and from there on north, where several poles were broken. The arc circuit will probably not be turned on for a day or two yet. owing to the fact that so many telephone wires are crossed with the arc wires.
