A crowd of women, about 24 in number, concluded a bob sled ride today with a luncheon at Fate’s Commercial. Mrs. H. J. Kannal was the hostess to the party. Mrs. Roy Cheesman did not return to her home at West Point until today. She was accompanied as far as Lafayette py Miss Mary Moore and Mrs. E. W. Hickman. Archie Lee is now practically out of danger and is able to get up and put on his clothes and b§ about the house every day, and he will be able before long to get out of the house if good weather prevails. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Osborne, of South Bend, arrived here today for a short~ visit with her sister, Mrs. J. D. Allman, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Osborne are on their way to Los Angeles, Cal., where they will make their future home. It was quite cold last night and early this morning but very clear and the bright sun has made considerable headway In melting the sleet laden wires and trees. The temperature last night reached 3 degrees above zero, and the forecast for tomorrow is cloudy and warmer.

Vice-President and Mrs. Fairbanks are contemplating taking a trip around the world shortly after the adjournment of Congress. They probably will take a steamer at San Francisco, visiting Hawaii and the Philippine Islands, then China and Japan and returning via Europe. The time of their return is not definitely fixed. Franklin McVeagh, the great Chicago wholesale grocer, who also has extensive banking Interests, is said to have been practically agreed upon by President-elect Taft for Secretary of the Treasury, and announcement is made that he is to shortly withdraw from the grocery business and also from the directorship of the Commercial National bank of Chicago. Delos Thompson and Jack Montgomery found that their lines had suffered a great amount in Wolcott, especially in the country, and about 500 feet of cable In the town was down, but probably not broken. A good sized gang of linemen are at work on the Rensselaer system, but It will be slow work to get the business' readjusted. A postal received this morning from Emerson Coen, who is now *at Havana Cuba, says life is one grand sweet song down there. The U. S. boys go sailing, swimming and fishing every day. The Maine, Mississippi and New Hampshire, will leave in a few days to meet the big American fleet that is returning from its trip around the world and escort it back to the United States. By an oversight in a previous issue of the Republican the place of the big Ambler A Qllger sale, which is to take place on fob. 25th, was omitted. The sale will take place at the Pleasant Grove stock farm, Wlnamac, In<L, on Feb. 26th. The Pleasant Grove stock farm Is 6V4 | miles suothwest of Wlnamac, and 10 I miles northeast of Francasville.
