To Discuss Drainage.
The following' article is from the Momencje~ Press Reporter: F. M. Trissal, of Chicago, and A. J. Bunnell, of North Judson, Ind., both large land owners in the upper Kankakee valley, and who are deeply interested in the Improvement of the Kankakee river, were in Momen e looking over the situation. The gentlemen stated that they wanted to g t the sentiment of the people of M(> mence on the question of the removal of the rock in the river, as they had been given to understand that the e was a feeling here that the deepening and straightening of the river would be a detriment to Momence in the way of floods at certain periods of the year. They met a number of the representative men of the city, and were given a more cordial reception than they had looked , for. They also got more information about the work that had been done by the state than .they had known, and expressed their Surprise that the rock had been left 4a the river above here at the riffle as it was. The river improvement association has taken the matter up thoroughly and will ask the government for an appropriation to assist in the work they have planned, and will'also ask their state as well as lUinqis to appropriate toward the project. The gentlemen arranged to have a meeting of our people, held here on Monday, Feb. Bth, at 10 o’clock, at which a large delegation from Indiana will attend to discuss the question as to whether co-operation between Illinois and Indiana can be had for the removal of the rock and how it can best be done. Also to consider whether the representatives In the House and Senate be requested to insist on legislation to ultimately receive a part of the $20,000,000 to be raised for, the deep waterway, the money to be used on the Kankakee improvement, as this river is a part of the water way. It is hoped that this meeting will be largely attended by our peuple, and the members of the legislature from this district are to be solicited to be present and hear the expressions from the people. Soon after this meeting the representatvfe s~ of the improvement association will leave for Washington to lay the matter before congress.
