Wanted—More Men Like Hi Day.
Rensselaer is in need of a few more men like Hiram Day, who have business courage and enterprise ami who step to the front whenever t v ere is any- progressive project requiring the expenditure of money and do thfoc full share or even more. T Mr. Day has always been one of the best supporters of a greater Renaselaer, and any preson that calls himself a mechanic should not father an article that criticises him cr implies a threat of boycott And should! that policy be adopted, It should be. the duty of the progressive side of Rensselaer’s population to offset it by. refusing to give work to. them. Thu tHfljM who signed himself “One -of the Recißseiaer Mechanics,” evidently misunderstood Mr. Day’s quoted statement in a recent issue of the Republican, hut he should know that. Mr. Day is of the opinion that every mechanic that is. “able and willing to work” should also be “able and willing" to provide a place to work; by helping to create a bocm, the remit of which would first benefit the.mechanics by more work and better wages. Mr. Day will probably regard"himself qualified to dlsgtinulsh whether a mechanic who has not bought a lot is able to do it or not and exercise both fairness and good business judgment in selecting his employes. , It is a poor time for mechanics to quarrel; it is a time for conceited, shoulder to shoulder action, and it must be kept in the foreground» of every mechanic's memory that Hiram Day is the real leader in this movement from the standpoint cf mechanics. Possibly the writer In criticism of him is mistaken; if so, be should get right and be one of the boosters. If it is simply malice, his article: Is not deserving of considerat'on; if he he is just a kicker, he should move to the tall brush, where his kicking won't do any harm at this critical period of Rensselaer's future greet-
