Mrs. D. H. Yeoman returned this 4. ... morning from Pittsburg, Carroll county, where she went yesterday afternoon to attend the funeral of Mrs. Kate Morris, the widow of her brother, John Morris. Mrs. Morris died in Chicago and the body was taken to Pittsburg for burial. She was .formerly a resident of Rensselaer, and was a sister of John Shields, now deceased. She was about 70 years of age. It is quite probable that there will be a game of basketball here Saturday night, notwithstanding the refusal of the Brookston high school to play. An effort is being made to have the athletic team from that town play a team from the militia company,which would Include Brenner, Gangloff, Robinson, Morgan, McFarland, Kirk, Chestnut and others. If the game is arranged it will be advertised in the Friday and Saturday papers. C. E. Nowels, * of Longmont, Colo., In renewing his Republican subscription, says: “We still like our new western home, and think Longmont, Colo., is pretty hard po beat, but we are always glad to get the news from the old home.” Charley and his family went to Longmont from Monticello and Gaylord Nowels and family went there fro,n Delphi. Both they and their wives are former Rensselaer people, the men being song of W. R. Nowels.

The marriage of Miss Belle Maine* to Mr. Loy Hess, of Fowler, Jnd., took place Wednesday afternoon at X o’clock at the home of her mother, Mrs. George H. Maines. Only members of the immediate families being present. The ceremony was performed by Rev. G. H. Clarke, pastor of the Christian churcb. The newly married couple took the 3:26 train for a few days’ stay in Chicago. They will reside in Fowler until the first of March when they will legin housekeeping on his father's farm between Goodland and Fowler. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Snyder and daughter Lucile, of Kankakee, 111., attended the wedding; Mrs. Snyder being a sister of the groom.

The Chas. Purdem sale yesterday was one of the best that has taken place this year. The sales totaled about $2,000, the bidding was spirited and the prices good. Robert Michal & Sons’ sale Tuesday was a good one also, totaling about $3,400, and good prices prevailing. Today the rale of Marion Adams takes place and tomorrow J. L. Myers will have his sale at Parr, the weather permitting. These are fine days tor sales, comfortable even without outside coat pro taction. H. C. Hoehaw went to Danville, 111, this morning to attend the funeral of his oldest brother, Nathan W. Hoshaw, whose death occurred Wednesday afternoon. Deceased was in his 72nd year and has been In falling health for several months. Mr. Hoshaw visited him last summer, at which time h* was in very poor health. He formerly lived in Indiana and was a member of the 150th Indiana regiment during the civil war. His funeral will take place at Danville Saturday morning at 10 o’clock. Readers of the Republican will recall that the two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bomtrager was operated on In Chicago last August and one of Its kidneys was removed. The litUe fellow was very frail at the time and there was great apprehension at the time. Now, six months later, be Is a robust boy sad apparently In the very best of health. Mr. Borntrager was in the Republican office one day last week and remarked that the boy was a* healthy
