Mrs. Robert Livingston returned tE Crown Point this morning, after ft. visit of several weeks with her daugh* ter, Mrs. A. C. Pancoast, west of. town. A. K. Rawlins and wife, of Montioello, were guests over night of Mr*, and Mrs. Fred Phillips. They went to Chicago this morning and will also visit in. Illinois before returning home. Roy Haag and his sister, Miss Phebe Haag, and Miss Lillian Bowers went to Cullom, 111., this morning to be present tomorrow at the marriage of the sister of the two first named, Miss Rosa Haag, to Mr. Louis Twiehause. Christmas E. Alter, son of Lewis S. Alter of-west Carpenter township, is quite sick with pneumonia, and his sister, Minnie D. Alter, who is taking a nurse’s training course in the Home Hospital at Lafayette, is at home nursing him. In remitting for the Republican Lewis S. Alter, of west Carpenter township, remarks that the Republican under Its various names has been a visitor in his home since the early fifties. _His father took the paper 1 up to hiß death and he has taken It himself ever since. Mr. Wattles Rhode received a letter this morning from his parents who are spending the winter in Florida. .They report it colder there on Feb. Ist than they had ever seen it In that state during' the several winters they have been there. Evidently the south got the tale end of ■ the storm that swept down on us last Saturday.

Mrs. J. W. Medicus went to Montlcello today to be present at the funegil this afternoon of Mrs. John Faris, whb died at the homa of her son Frank, in Oklahoma City. The body waa taken through Rensselaer today went to Monticello on. W. J. Wright also attended the funeral. D. L. Halstead returned last Saturday from Michigan, where he has a farm of 600 acies, and which he has just completed fencing. His farm Is close to Branch, Mich., and he expects to shortly bring up a car load or two of Angora goats to turn into the land to clear It up of brush. If you are going to be out of town for a week or two you should have the Daily Republican sent' to you. This will be done at the rate of ten cents a week, the same price that is charged for local delivery. It is mighty nice to keep in daily touch with the old home.
A water pipe in the Rosey hotel, which is now unoccupied, burst yesterday evening and before the water could be shut off it had flooded the Princess 5 cent theatre. No serious damage was done and the Princess gave one of its best shows as soon ag the water was swept out Dick Foulks was in from Mllroy township Monday. His wife has been in very feeble health for some time and for two months this winter took treatment in Logansport An enlarge-' ment of the thyroid gland of the neck similar to that from which Mr* A. A. Beaver is suffering, is the chief cause of her trouble. The Roselawn Review, of which John Bowie is the publisher, will enter upon its eleventh year with the issue of this week. The paper is a long time past the experimental stage and Mr. Bowie gives the Newton county town a first-class paper and they appreciate it by a liberal patronage. N. S. Bates and two daughters returned yesterday evening from Broad Ripple, where they had been called to attend the death of the wife of Mr. Bates' brother. Dr. J. W. Bates. Her death was caused by poisoning. Mrs. Bates was quite well known in this county, having for some time been interested in fanners' Institute work, and being regarded as one of the most Interesting and instructive lecturers in the state. She was only 36 years of age, and bad always been in the very best health. Tod Hopkins and wife arrived here Monday from Oreensburg, Kans., for a visit of a month or such a matter with relatives and old friends. They are at present stopping at the
