W. N. Pence arrived here from Texas Saturday and will be in Indiana a few days. He was In the company of Fred Phillips Saturday and it is probable the Colonel Is framing up a visit to the big ranch Mr. Pence is foreman of in Texas, and possibly arranging to take in the Mexico trip about which Mr. Pence wrote the Republican a few weeks ago. C. D. Holmes returned to bis home at Morocco this morning, after a visit of a week with his daughter, Mre. A. J. Brenner, and family at the Makeever hotel. Mr. Holmes suffered a dislocation of his hip about a year ago, and notwithstanding the fact that he is now 82 years of age he gets about without signs of being crippled and la now enjoying very excellent health. Frank Bomtrager, of near Surrey, 1b In today arranging for a public sale to take place Monday, February 15th. Having rented his farm to Mr. George Tullls, himself and family will move to Fort Wayne, some time after the sale, where Mr. Bomtrager has accepted a position in the Ackert packing house. Mr. Bortnrager’s mother and sister live In Ft. Wayne, moving there from here five years ago. j Mr. and Mrs. B. Forsythe celebrated their twentieth wedding anniversary Friday evening, Jan. 29th, by entertaining twenty couples at dinner at the Comer house. After the dinner was over the guests repaired to the beautiful Forsythe home, at the corner of Washington and Division streets and spent the evening playing cards. It was one of the most pleasant social affairs of the winter.

Mr. Taft had been accused of opposing statehood unt 1 a later session In order that he might have the honor of signing his name to the order making tte new states. To refute this selfish charge Mr. Taft has eent National Chairman Hitchock to Washington to urge the passage of the statehood measure at this session of congress. Mrs. C. E. Robinson received the sad news of the death of an old friend, Mr. E. R. Hutchings, of Harvey, 111. The deceased is well known among the people of Gil'.am, that township having formerly been his home. His death was caused by that fatal disease, pneumonia. He was only sick a few days and passed away on the morning of the 20th.
