A bill has x been introduced in the State legislature to redistrict the state eongressionally. It would change the 10th district by taking Laporte and Porter county out and putting them In the 13th district, and putting Pulaski and Starke in the 10th. ; James Clark arrived home yesterday from Cedar Point, Kans., where he had been to attend the funeral of his brother. Mrs. Chas. Clark will reside at Cedar Point, and the farm which her husabnd .owned will be rented after a sale of the stock and equipment takes place.

Auctioneer Harmon pulled off a rapid little Bale yesterday. It was a joint sale between Jacob Jungles and C. L. Parks, near Surrey, and was started at 11 o’clock. At just 1 o’clock It was all over. The sales totaled about $1,200. / Cuba has again entered upon an era of self-government. Provisional Governor Magoon has turned the reigns of state over to President Gomez and American occupation of the island has ceased. Certainly the United States has done all in its power for the once down-trodden people. Thomas Taggart, the Democratic state boss is using all his influence to secure the repeal of the county Option law. Taggart was at the head of the brewery lobby at the last session of the legislature. Senatorelect Shively urged the Democrats Wednesday night to stand by the party pledges.

A petition was filed at Logansport Wednesdayy asking for an election to vote on the county option proposition. The petition was signed by 2,361 voters. Logansport Is the largest city situated in any couhty that has thus far voted on the county option. If It succeeds theie It Is Quite certain that an effort will be made to make Tippecanoe county dry. Abel Fields, a colored grocer, of Lafayette, has been winding the court house clock there since Jan. 1, 1886, and has started on his 26th year. As a rule, he wlndß the clock once a week, never less, and does the work on Monday morning. There are three weights, each weighing 1,200 pounds, and It takes an hour to wind them Into place. It is not easy work, either. Mr. Fields haa been out of the city several times In the twenty-four years, but alwayjL furnishes a substitute and never permits Lb* clock to run down.
