Mrs. Isaac Wiltshire returned this morning from Kent land, where she had gone to attend the funeral of an aunt vtho died Sunday in Chicago and who was brought to Kent!and tor burial. She was accompanied home by her mother, Mrs. Julia A. Knouff, of Town Creek, Ala., who had come to attend the same funeral, it being her sister. Mrs. Knouff will make ing her sister. Mrs. Knouff will make a prolonged visit here. Chas. Clark and wife and baby, who came here about two months ago in order that he might take medical treatment, left this morning for their home at Cedar Points, Kans., having decided that the climate here Was not suitable to his failing health. He will spend a few days at Cedar Point and will then go to Colorado Springs, Colo. He is a son of Mrs. Lucy Clark, and during his stay here has lived with his mother on Weston street Rensselaer seems to be out of tfie snow belt. Probably on the level we have had within the past week not more than two Inches of snow, while both north and south they have had within t£e past week not more than two inches of snow, while both north, and south they have had much more. At Lafayette there was about 3 inches and in some parts of the state as much as 15 inches is reported The depth may possibly depend somewhat on the conscience of the telegraph liar. The Jasper County Democrat goes to great straits to endeavor to Justify its slanderous and libelous, attack against former county treasurer S. R. Nichols, and at the same time to endeavor to stir up strife between Mr. Nichols and Auditor Leatherman. The Democrat has lied about and slandefed many men during its career in Jasper county, and its editor has been sued on several occasions and whipped on several other occasions. Each time he falls down on his knees and whines like a whipped cur. If he wag possessed of one-half the manhood and honesty that S. R. Nichols Is he would be deserving of consideration. But he is recognized where best known as a malicious liar, one of the kind that seeks to build up his own business by tearing down the names of others. The people of Jasper county elected S. R. Nichols and also Jesse D. Allman, and while the former had the misfortune to lose some $23,000 in the McCoy bank, all of county money, he nevertheless stands as clear on the books of Jasper county a» any man in the county. And Jesse D. Allman defeated the Incompetent that was nominated by the democrats of Jasper county by a majority far ahead of bis ticket. This indicates that the voters of Jasper county have an Idea about the men they want for office, notwithstanding the fact that Babcock has some personal grievance against them. Bab’s roasts are getting to be somewhat of a joke, except for the fact that they are often publ'sbed with such an evident desire to and it is probable that an “Ananias Club” will be organized, to be composed of those who have been, maligned by Babcock. It would have for Its membership some of the best men in Jasper county, the least of them an Improvement over the double shuffler, who has played the Jekyl and Hyde for so many years at the Democrat office.
