Life of Rev. A. C. Abbott.
Abraham Cook Abbott was born in Shelby county, Kentucky, September 4, 1824 and died at the home 'of his daughter, Mrs. Franklin Ott, In Chicago Heights, 111., Jan. Bth, 1909, aged 84 years, 4 months and 4 days. He was twice married, first to Rebecca Ann Hones, in 1843. To this union were bor%4yv]a.Children, John A. and William H:> The former survives, residing at Indianapolis. The other son died at the age of twp years. On Nov. 4th, 1849, he was married to Sarah A. Abbott, who lived until July 20th, 1901. To this union were born ten children, six of whom survive, viz. Rev. J. T. Abbott, of Portland, Oreg.; Mrs. Franklin Ott, of Chicago Heights; Edgar J. Abbott, of Wichita, Kans.; Mrs. Bowman Switzer and Mrs. Korah Daniels, of this county, and Mrs. Ben McColly, of Chicago Heights. After the death of his second wife he lived largely with his daughter, Mrs. Ott, although visiting occasionally with his other children. When taken sick he was at the home of his son John, in Indianapolis, to which place Mr. Ott went and brought him to the Ott home in Chicago Heights. Rev. Abbott first began to preach in the Newlight church, while living in Johnson county. He moved with his family to this county in the early sixties, but returned to Johnson county. Again in 1865 he came to this county to take up his permanent residence. He was a local preacher in the Methodist Protestant' church for several years before being ordained and for some twentythree years thereafter. He was a good man, lived a virtuous and upright life, and 'leaves a good name as his best legacy. The remains were laid to rest beside those of his wife in Mt. Tabor cemetery.
