NEW BUSINESS BLOCK WILL BE BUILT

Roth Bros, and Dr. J. W. Horton Will Erect One of the Best Business Blocks in Rensselaer.

Roth Bros., the butchers, and Dr. J. W. Horton will erect a fine business block the coming year on the ground now occupied by the J. A. McFarland grocery, the M. E. Grffin fruit and confectionary stand, and the two small frame buildings formerly occupied by the American Express office and Hollan’s shoe shop. Dr. Horton sold Roth Bros, twenty feet adjoining the room where their butcher market is now located and he still owns 30 feet on the oorner. The McFarland store room, over which Dr. Horton’s dental parlors are situated, Is 20 feet wide and only 30 feet in depth and has its front toward Washington street only. The plan is to connect it with the new building, tearing off the old cornice, making it higher and having a uniform front with a four-foot stairway between the Roth and Horton building. The plan is to also make a Cullen street front on the Horton building which Mr. McFarland will continue to occupy.

A basement will extend under botts buildings and the whole will be heated by a hot water plant. Offices will constitute the second floor of the Roth section, and it is understood that there are several applicants already for the front suite. Dr. Horton will continue to have his office on the second floor of "" z his building and will also make a living flat there and probably occupy it with his family, either telling or renting his present residence. The Roth building will have * depth of 90 feet and the Horton building of 65 feet, which will take it to the south line of the frame build ing now occupied by Mr. Hollan, the shoe maker. It has not been decided by Dr. Horton whether ho will throw the entire 30 feet ot his building Into one room or whether he will make two of it He has about decided to build a baking oven in the basement The building will cost from |lO,000 to 112,000, and will bo one of the best buildings in the city.
