Several of the checker players of the city will hold a tournament to determine the champion Tuesday even ing. The games will be played at M. E. Griffin’s confectionary store, and all players are eligible- to enter the contest. The games will begin at 8 o’clock. Two games around will be played. The affair will wind up with an oyster supper. Mrs. L. J. Lane, whose sickness has been several times mentioned, has made rather marked Improvement the past few days and has been able to lie down to sleep for the first time In many weeks. The dropsical conditions seem to have almost entirely left but .her heart Is still troubling her. If the Improvement continues as It has tor the past week it Is quite probable that she will fully recover, and this was regarded as almost Impossible a month ago. * We are unloading another car of Arlstos flour.
