Isaac Swartz, of Clay township, Is our authority for the statement that the much talked of Frankfort, De’phi and Northern interurban la now almost ' a reality. Mr. Swartz states that representatives of the company have been busily engaged during the past ten days talking up their options for the right-of-way' and making eash settlements for the same and also that the promoters have now all the financial backing' necessary to make the project a go. The line comes Into Carroll county about four miles west of Rossville and follows the Prince Williams gravel road Into this city which opens to Delphi merchants a vast territory not reached by any railroad and which will prove of untold value to our citizens in general.—Delphi Citizen-Times.

The cure for man, woman, or child. Is to cure the cause—the kidneys. Doan’s Kidney Pills cure sick kidneys— Cure all forms of kidney suffering. Mrs.- Andrew Brenner, 1821 Toledo Street, Logansport, Ind., says: “We think just as highly of Doan’s Kidney Pills at this time as when we gave a statement recommending them in - 1897, after they had cured our daughter of a very distressing case of kidney trouble. Her kidneys became weakened after a severe attack of typhoid fever and as a result, she endured much suffering. I had used Doan’s Kidney Pills with such good results that I decided to have my daughter try them and procured a box. They, helped her greatly. from the first and she steadily Improved until completely cured. This cure took place in 1897 and as no recurrence of the trouble have taken place, I feel that I can recommend Doan’s Kidney Pills to other sufferers.’’ Plenty more proof like this from Rensselaer people. The Brook Reporter last week contained an article discussing the proposed drainage of the lower Iroquois, which is in the main correct It states that the banks of thd river in that part of the country are so high that there is never any possibility of an ■overflow, and that the drainage would not be justified for the few acres that would be benefited. And this is probably correct as regards Newton county, except that land not benefited could not be assessed under the law. The Reporter says that If the people at the upper end of the river Want the drainage continued they should pay for it. But it Is not the people at the upper end who want the drainage, in fact they are the ones who are largely fighting the movement The petition for the drainage comes from Caiey L. Carr and others who are situated below Rensselaer and who figure that the drainage so far completed will be a detriment to them, as it will dump the water down on them so fast that an ordinary freshet will Inundate their land, whereas it formerly done land owners no harm. There is a general impression here that the. river drainage will have to he continued at some future time, and many, who are in some ways opposed to it, see the hand writing on the wall and believe that this is the best time to carry It on, thus avoiding later court costs and taking advantage of the fact that the big dredge is still in the river. This dredge cost about $23,000 and once removed a great cost would be entailed in placing another dredge in the river. While it Is by no means certain that the Sterclbergs would get the contract for the lower river dredging they would have a great advantage over other bidders. The law contemplates that these drainage schemes shall be paid according to the benefits received and while the assessments are not always equitable it is reasonably certain that the land that is 1 not at all in need of the drainage will not be assessed to pay for the ditch. | It is said that several who signed the remonstrance against the ditch | are now wishing that they had not done it, but they can not get off the remonstrance. As it is only a question of time until another petition 1 for the ditch will be filed if this one is defeated, it will probably be just as good a time as any to have the petition' held valid. If this is done there Is still another feature of the matter ■ that will confront Newtcn county, and that will be the necessity of carrying the drainage on toward the mouth of the Iroquois.
