DERERVE THE VOTES OF ALL REPUBLICANS
(Continued from Page One ) Rensselaer, and we wish to say just a few things about Abe Halleck. Biographically, he was born in Kankakee county, 111., and came with his parents to Newton county when a small boy. At the age of 24 he moved to DeMotte, in Jasper county, where he lived for about 18 years, and where he was in business all of the time. In 1896 he was elected a county commissioner and served three con ecutive terms, concluding them three years ago. Two years before his third term was concluded he moved to Rensselaer and engaged in the practice of law, and he has had a growing practice from that time, until today he figures in practically every important law suit in the county. When Mr. Halleck was elected commissioner the first time the court house was partly built, the corner stone had been erected some months before and the walls were above the floor of the main office rooms. Mr. was president of the board during all three terms that he was commissioner and his record as a commissioner is aliove criticism. Mr. Halleck has been assailed by some persons who have not liked him personally, but his record in office is one of conscientious service to the county, and the interests of the county were always safeguarded in his hands. Mr. Halleck is a total abstainer as regards intoxicating liquors and tobacco, and is a family man, and his private life, like his public service, is above reproach. To know him well is to admire him. and republicans will make no mistake by electing him to the state senate. He will represt nt the district fairly and ' will support tho e mejsures advocated , in the republican platlorih. -
JOHN G. BROWN. The republican representative candidate for White and Jasper counties is John G. Brown, a farmer residing near Monon. He is a practical man and I one of the leading citizens of that ' county and a leader in all good and progressive movements. He was extensively mentioned in last week's Republican. The substantial qualities of Mr. Brown should recommend him to the voters as just the kind of a man they want as a legislator. | JI. E. PARKISON. I Harvey E. Parkison is the republican candidate for trustee of Marion township, and is a well known and successful farmer and a good citizen. Ee was born in Barkley township, and some years ago was trustee of Hanging Grove township. Now, for several years he has resided in Marlon township, and if elected be will give the township his best services, taking personal supervision of the office and not entrusting any part of it to others. Mr. Parkison is a deserving man, honest, of good judgment and of experience of the kind so valuable in the office he seeks to be elected to. 'GEORGE W. SCOTT. The republican candidate for as- , sessor has the advantage of a good education, and for some years he was one of Jasper county's most able school teachers. Now he is engaged in the ' harness and buggy business with his I brother, under the firm name of Scott : Bros. George is a native of Jasper ' county and will lie 34 years of age the 17th of Noveml»er. He was married about five weeks ago. He is one of our substantial young business men and will, make a good officer if elected. ' Place your order for a bushel of those nice, sweet onioils at the Home Grocery.
Read the words of the Jasper County Democrat of Feb. 15th, saying that Jasper county has the best set of officios it ever had and see if that smacks of bossism. There is no machine in Jasper county, so far as the republicans are concerned, and there is but one demand of the voters, honesty and capability. The well-per-former duties of the officers speak for them. Look at the names of ths candidates on ths republican ticket and then review their records and see how foolish is the charge of the Jasper County Democrat that the republican party is machine ridden. The sack shape is smart and becom-' ing to good forms. ,
