To Try To Make Lafayette Dry.
With the county option bill enacted Into law the voters of Tippecanoe county probably will have an opportunity very soon to decide whether the county shall be wet or dry. Already the anti-saloon leaders have started a petition asking the county commissioners to order a special election. It requires 20 per cent of the voters of the county on the petition before It Is effective! The county commissioners meet a week from Monday, and It Is not unlikely that the work on the petition will be rushed through in time to file before that time. About 2,200 names are required to make the petition effective. If the petition is filed with the 20 per cent of the voters signing It, the county commissioners at their next regular meelng will order a special election to be held in not less than twenty days or more than thirty days. If the majority of the votes cast in the election is against the saloon, the commissioners can grant no mere licenses, and the saloon men buve ilnety days In which to dose up their business. If their licenses run onger, the bf lance Is to be refunded to them. If the county goes wet the townships where remonstrances prevail art not affected. Try the Home Grocery—the busy store.
